Session Overview:
Dysphagia (swallowing difficulty) is prevalent after stroke. It has been associated with increased risk of aspiration pneumonia and mortality. Consistent dysphagia management practice promotes swallowing safety and reduce adverse outcomes for people with dysphagia post stroke. The aim of developing a dysphagia management standard was to address challenges in dysphagia management and facilitate a structured approach to dysphagia management.

Meet our Presenter:


Langduo Chen

Langduo is a Nurse Unit Manager who manages a specialist stroke rehabilitation ward - Tobruk Rehab Ward at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia. 
With over 30 years in nursing, she has extensive experience in stroke recovery and rehabilitation. 
Langduo is currently studying PhD in Nursing at Flinders University of South Australia. Her research interest is in the area of hospital to home transition care for people with stroke and their caregivers.



Helen Mangahas

Helen is a Senior Speech Pathologist who works on the Tobruk Rehab Ward at Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia. 
Helen has worked as a Speech Pathologist for the past 9 years, across a variety of roles in both Metro and Country South Australia, including Palliative Care, Transition Care Services, Rehab In The Home and Community Health.
